I'm a long time indycar and open wheel fan. My favorite indycar driver is A.J.Foyt and Jimmy Clark. I'm also a huge fan of Michigan Supermodifieds (uprights) from about 1958 to 1965.

Danger at the race track

Posted on March 30, 2009 at 8:45pm 6 Comments

I was watching a TV show called Destroyed in Seconds on the Discovery Channel today and they were showing a flip with a winged Sprint car at Williams Grove Speedway. It knocked a track photographer out but fortunately he was okay. I got to thinkin' with the great group of open wheel fans, flagmen and track photographers we have on this site if you ever had a close call while taking pictures, flagging a race or just being at the wrong place at the wrong time while at a race.

Lloyd Ruby passed away on March 24, 2009 from Cancer. He was an excellent open wheel driver and had hard luck at Indianapolis. RIP, Lloyd.

HI PETE,
THANKS FOR THE INVITE! I DO HAVE PICTURES OF MY DAD AND SOME TRACKS, MOSTLY BUTLER MOTOR SPEEDWAY AND MANCHESTER SPEEDWAY. I WILL HAVE TO GET BACK WITH YOU ABOUT HAROLD. DO YOU KNOW WHERE HE RACED OR WHAT HE RACED? OR WAS HE INVOLVED SOME OTHER WAY WITH RACING?

HI PETE,
I REALLY SHOULD BE WORKING BUT THINKING ABOUT THE RACES IS MUCH MORE INTERESTING! I SPOKE WITH MY DAD EARLIER TODAY. HE WAS THERE THAT NIGHT AND THE BROTHERS WERE THE VALENTINE BROTHERS. DID YOU GO TO MANCHESTER WHEN IT WAS OPEN? DO YOU EVER GET TO BUTLER, OR OTHER TRACKS?

This was the highlight of my trip to meet my wife's family in Indiana. Well, also the bribe to get me to go.

That was taken last at the Indy Motorspeedway hall of fame. It's a smaller museum than you might expect, but admission was like 2 or three bucks. When you view the track up close it seems even narrower that on TV.

Thank you very much, Pete! It is a lot of work...but I truly enjoy what we're creating. I hope it is something folks can enjoy for years to come. Got to find a way to get this Open wheel site going....got to get the word out. I know there are alot of racers and fans who would appreciate it.

That seat was an extremely tight fit. How I got all 220# of my fat butt in there I don't know.
