- My first open wheel event occured in the fall of 1969 for the running of the Cardinal 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville,Va..Ray Hendrick,Richmond,Va. dominated the event,lapping the field an amazing 13 times!My Dad had taken my younger brother and myself for my birthday to this magical place and althought neither one of them caught the bug Iknew then that the Mighty Modifieds would always hold a special place in my heart and they still do.I write for Fast Lane Racing News and cover both the Whelen Modified Tour and the Whelen Southern Modified Tour both in print and photography for Mr.Larry Long.I try to get as many fans to the track as I can thur these mediums supporting Nascar and promoters at both the local and National levels.By the Grace of God and 600 Horsepower,hope to see you at the races!
