1980- Gary Bettenhausen's drive from the middle of the last row to a third place finish. All of this in a five year old car. Many feel this was one of the greatest drives in the history of the 500.

I can only imagine how hard it was for these men to try to smile after the terrible events during the race. Also happy for Gordy that he could get a proper win in 82.

The Gilders have created a road-racing section on this site. If you can dig the old TransAm, CanAm, F1, endurance, this is the place. What we need now is members. We need more pics and stories. Cmon over and join the fun!
